My kindergarten students are all English language learners and come from low income homes. This is the first school experience for most of my students. They come to school happy and show an eagerness to learn everything whether it be math, science, or a new word they have never heard.
My children are like little sponges that absorb learning.
They constantly wonder about the world around them. They ask lots of questions and are excited to research the answers using books that I manage to gather from the library or using internet resources. Their enthusiasm for learning is evident throughout the day as they become "experts" ... mathematicians, scientists, artists, writers and illustrators.
My Project
Children have an inquisitive nature to explore, to look at things, to touch with their hands. Kindergarteners are especially curious about insects!!! During our Insect Unit of study my children become Junior Entomologists and learn about insects through our limited collection of books, internet images and going on a bug hunt.
The materials I am requesting will allow me to set up an entomology lab where my children will have the opportunity to examine close up real preserved insect specimens and observe the growth of a butterfly.
This entomology lab will allow my students to engage in hands-on learning and enrich their learning about insects and insect growth. It will also help my students retain their learning because they are having fun and keeps them engaged.
