I am a Special Education Teacher at a Title I elementary school in Hilo, Hawaii. I teach 4th grade in an inclusion setting with a co-teacher. In our grade level, our students rotate for math, ELA, and sciences; therefore, we will see each and every 4th-grade student in our school (nearly 170 students).
It is important to us that each and every student comes to school excited to learn every day.
As an inclusive classroom, we understand that the world can be a challenging place. We want our classroom to feel like a safe place where students can learn and explore together.
My Project
Hawaii has hit its very rainy season. This means that the students have indoor recess every day! I would like to offer our students materials to build and create structures during indoor recess. The LEGO kits will give the students a variety of colors and shapes to build. The wheels will allow the students to make objects that can move. With the LEGO mats the students will have a designated working area.
These LEGO kits will allow our students to design, build and adjust their creation in a designated area.
My hope is that the students' creations can stay on the designated mats for as long as they need to complete their project. Thank you for donating to this project.
