My Students

"Learning never exhausts the mind." Leonardo da Vinci. This quote helps me to think about hands-on activities that engage students and motivates them to seek more. Learning should always excite and intrigue the mind.

My fourth graders come from a variety of backgrounds.

They are diverse economically as well as ethnically. They are always curious and eager to learn. Having resources and the tools they need to be successful is so important. Our school is located in an urban setting with over 75% of the students receiving free or reduced meals. We are unique as we offer gifted and talented classes, general education, special needs, and enrichment for students talented in art and music.

My Project

Fourth graders will create electrical circuits using the lightbulbs and batteries. They will discover how a circuit is made and understand the flow of energy as well as the transfer of energy in a circuit. Students will study real world examples using the nonfiction books.

Students become very confident when they discover something new.

Most fourth graders have not had the experience of building a circuit and can further apply their understanding to their home and their school.
