This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Students will use the writing process to create and publish their original stories, then use creative bookbinding techniques to publish the stories as books. The students will be able to share their books with others, increase reading and writing skills and build upon their love of reading, creating and sharing.
I am a Fine Arts Teacher at a small city magnet school with about 75% free and reduced lunch students. I work in the 2nd grade classrooms teaching the writing process, and work with PreK through 3rd grade teaching the Arts. This project is a good way to bring Literature, Writing, Reading and the Arts together.
We will need bookmaking materials: glue, bone folders, paper for covers and pages, ink, and book board.
This project will enable the students to improve writing , reading and art skills and allow them to share their work with others through a circulating library of student authored original books.
