My students need new dystopian novels to read in our upcoming dystopian unit, as well as headphones for my special needs students to listen to audio books.
The students I teach are part of a very diverse group. About half of the students at our school receive free or reduced lunch. I serve students who are academically gifted, regular education, and exceptional education students with learning disabilities.
All of my seventh grade language arts students work hard each day to become better readers.
They are on a wide variety of reading levels, which can make it difficult to always reach each of their needs. My students deserve the opportunity to choose reading books that are on their individual level.
Middle school can be a very challenging time in a young person's life, but in my classroom we always focus on the positive and accept each new challenge with a smile on our faces!
My Project
We are doing a new dystopian novel unit this year in my 7th grade English language arts class. We have a few titles, but we need enough dystopian books for each of my 80 students to read their own book. We will read in small book groups of 3-4 students, and learn about what dystopian literature is exactly. Each book group will make a book talk trailer to share their book with their classmates, and we will culminate the unit by making actual dystopian worlds from our books in Minecraft Education Edition!
Great students deserve great books!
This project will ensure that each student has a good book in hand. Furthermore, students who struggle with reading will be able to use headphones to listen to and follow along with books on their own level.
My goal every year is to help kids become life long readers. I have selected dystopian novels of various levels for my students in this project to help them find a "just right book." I also chose several full series sets. This will allow students to pick up where they left off in a series or to continue reading a new series they fall in love with during the unit.
