Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I want each of my seven second grade Literacy students to have access to their own copy of You Read to Me, I'll Read to You by Mary Ann Hoberman. The book includes poems written for two voices (student/teacher, boys/girls, etc.) to read aloud. Children love the poems. Shared reading promotes fluency through teacher modeling and guided practice. I teach first and second graders in Reading Recovery or small pull-out groups. Students come to my class for thirty to forty-five minutes for an intensive reading lesson. I work in a k-5 elementary school with a wide range of academic abilities and experiences. Shared reading experiences are important to students' growth as fluent readers. In order to attend to a text's meaning, readers need to be able to easily get through the reading. If they have little trouble getting through the reading work, then they can work on understanding what they read.
