This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Every day my students come to school excited to learn in a safe environment. While their lives outside of school can be tough, they understand the importance of learning how to read and learning more about the world.
My school is located in Washington, DC.
My students are from a low-income community where many of their parents are nonreaders. My students must be successful in school in order to create a future for themselves. Change happens here, and it must happen for my students.
My Project
My students need items to help them feel comfortable as the winter months approach so that they can focus on learning. Often my students come to school hungry, and these snacks can be a quick fix for them. They also love to be rewarded for hard work with special snacks.
While my students don't always feel comfortable enough to ask for warm clothes, having sweatshirts on hand will allow me to provide them to students as I see the need.
These match our school uniforms so they will not be embarrassing for a student to wear. I've also added paper and pencils to this project. As students begin to run out of beginning of the year materials, I know they will need a refresh!
