Help me give my students the love of reading with a copy of Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key, ensuring that each child has a book to read, especially during this time of distance learning.
My students come from low income families; 75% receive free or reduced lunch. My families are hardworking, caring people who do what they can to support our school and family, even when resources are limited. There is great pride in being an Eagle and receiving an excellent education. My students set learning and personal goals, work hard, and enjoy their growth as learners. They know that I have high expectations for them and they continually rise to the challenge of meeting them. They thrive in a classroom environment that values and believes in them. We are a 4th grade class that learns and helps one another to achieve our goals.
My students are a group of diverse learners with diverse learning needs.
They are at all levels of the learning spectrum and come from diverse backgrounds with differing learning challenges. Yet, each and every one of them has the goal to grow in their learning.
My Project
My students are at home trying their best to learn in this new educational environment. Very few of them have books at home or access to a digital library. It is important that I find ways to continue to develop their love of reading, even in our current situation.
Engaging with a great book will not only further their love of reading, but give them a much needed break from their current educational reality.
A class set of “Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key” by Jack Gantos will enable my students to flexibly enjoy our class read aloud from home and engage in our book talks during our virtual class time. When my readers laugh out loud at a story, with a very relatable character, they beg to read more! This book helps students accept the differences in others and helps them develop empathy. They will easily get lost in the pages of this book.
By donating to our classroom you are helping students love to read and provide a little bit of joy while distance learning at home.
These students have the skills, the talent, and the desire to do amazing things and dream beyond what is read on the page. Thank you so much for considering our project.
