How will my students view their educational experience?
A culture of learning refers to the atmosphere and energy level in a classroom where students are engaged in important work.
I teach in an urban school which serves five hundred and seventy students with more than half of our student population coming from low-income families. There are diverse challenges due to state budget cuts.
My multicultural second graders come from various socioeconomic backgrounds, and they have different learning styles. However, their unique personality traits are like a sunset seeing a rainbow for the very first time. I think of them as my inspiring young authors and little problem-solvers. They enjoy buddy reading, social-emotional learning activities, real-world math exploration, and learning how to play the game of chess. My students are also learning first-hand about generosity and compassion from donors like you.
Did you know that flexible seating elevates student learning and engagement? Did you know that teachers who choose to create a Flexible classroom give their students a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them?
My goal is to create a learning environment that gives ALL of my students a choice in how they learn by implementing a flexible classroom; I want them to welcome opportunities to take more control of their learning process (A process that students go through to acquire new knowledge, concepts, and skills which influence future learning).
One day, my classroom will be completely transformed, and my students will be able to choose where they sit each day, however, their choice must be responsible and reflect their commitment to learning.
Flex-space mobile desks are an essential part of my goal. The desks will benefit students in different areas. Since we have collaborative tables in our classroom(5 to 7 students sit at each table), the Flex-space desks will provide students with alternative small group instruction. The desks can also be easily placed together for partner work. Afterward, the desks can be easily separated and moved to a quiet private nook in the classroom. Most importantly, the Flex-Space desks address differentiated needs of my diverse learners. We need your support to create a 21st century flexible classroom.
