Ms. Rose from Orange TX is requesting computers & tablets through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need Chromebooks in order to excel in multiple learning programs that would be otherwise unavailable to them.

I am an interventionist for a low income/poverty stricken school district. Our school has chosen the Istation program to monitor students progress. The students that come to me are the lowest of the low. We consider them critical. The majority of my students want to learn, they are just so far behind their grade levels that they get frustrated and act out. There are many days that I will not see them for being suspended or they are placed in in-school-suspension for their behavior. Some of their stories are not even fathomable to most of us. Their home lives are comparable to those you see in a movie. Most of them just want someone that will care. These babies hold a very special place in my heart. Once they leave the elementary, I follow their progress and make sure they keep traveling the right path.
I am requesting two Chromebooks. My job revolves around the students scores on the Istation learning program. Unfortunately, we do not have enough computers in our school to get this done in a timely fashion. If it's not bad enough that we are a low income district, but we were also recently affected by Hurricane Harvey. Our middle school received most of the damage, though it has affected all of us. We were limited on technology before the disaster, and have suffered since.
After Harvey, most of my students still do not have a home, much less a computer.
Not that our poverty stricken families had them before. School is the only time that these children have any access to modern technology. In this day and age, students need computer knowledge. Even a fast food restaurant uses computer systems.
If I were able to have a few Chromebooks in my classroom, it would give me more time to teach the students. We spend most of our sessions attempting to find an open computer lab or trying to beat one of the other 60 teachers to our one cart of iPads. Please help me get these students out of the critical bubble, and into a new world of technology.
