Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Learning how to budget your money can be a very hard lesson to learn. Teaching students how to budget early will only help them be successful and responsible adults in the future.
My school is in a progressively growing, rural community with total enrollment in Pre-K through 5th grade of about 600 students.
The town population is approximately 66,881, with 17 elementary schools in the district. The diversity at our school comes from the economic levels with approximately 45% of our students receiving free and reduced lunches. I teach in a self-contained third grade class. Our students have a wide range of learning abilities.
My Project
My students will use our class currency to rent the sports equipment to use at recess. Students will have an opportunity be able to be active and engaged at recess. This will give them an extra health benefit as they learn many social skills playing games. My students will have to learn to budget their "STAR" Bucks to rent basketballs, Frisbees, hula hoops, sidewalk chalk, jerseys, and other recess equipment. Having these materials will give my students more opportunities to spend their class currency which will help our classroom economy.
Your donation will give my students incentives (the equipment) to earn their Star Bucks (our school currency).
Having a variety of sports equipment will motivate my students to have good behavior, turn in their assignments, and to complete their school jobs. This will impact my students by teaching them many important economic concepts, such as: budgeting, earning, choices, decision making, and opportunity cost. Teaching students the importance of economics at an early age is so important.
