Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a mix of diverse learners and general education students. As a school, we're trying to include as many students as possible in the general education environment while still providing instruction in a smaller setting. To achieve that, teachers and students are collaborating across environments. We are located on the west side of Chicago and my students love learning and experiencing new things, especially when they feel it is a unique experience to our room.
Building responsibility and confidence makes a huge difference for my students.
We have rotations for math and reading to practice different skills and to build independence. It is difficult for my students at the beginning of the year, but by December, they can usually work for a full 30 minutes without teacher intervention during their independent work time.
Including my students as leaders in social-emotional and gaming situations has allowed them to be leaders and depend on positive behaviors for attention.
My Project
We have a variety of succulents, cactus, vegetables and flowers growing in our classroom and outdoors in our community garden. The LAPOND Hydroponic Grow Kit,3 Layers 108 Plant Sites PVC Pipe Hydroponics will allow us to grow all variety of plants within the component systems and explore the life cycle of plants and component parts throughout the school year. General Hydroponics Flora Grow, Bloom, Micro Combo Fertilizer set, Gamma Vittles Vault Seal Lid, and LEAKTITE B5GSKD 5GAL Black Plastic Pail will provide a complete system to maintain our indoor garden.
Growing plants with purpose seems magical to my students, and I want their observations to turn toward scientific knowledge.
There are enough planting sites for each student to grow their choice of plant and experience how to take a seedling to a full grown plant. All year round we can experience bloom and harvest!
