You Do the Karaoke and You Turn Yourself Around....

Help me give my students the karaoke machine AND/or the owl pellets. We do a Song of the Week that is inspirational and uplifting in nature. We study the lyrics, dance, and start our day happy.

My Students

My students are your typical, average students when we start the year. Apprehensive, unsure, quirky, bold, shy, confident. The combination of those adjectives make for a typical, "average" group at the start. Somehow along the way, usually by December, they change. We ALL find our groove and become a cohesive unit. We protect each other in and out of the classroom. In writing this, I am smiling. Anyone reading this would not "feel" what it is I am trying to describe in this 5" x 3" box. They would have to witness it firsthand. And I would invite anyone in to our classroom to do just that. You see, I am proud. Maybe I'm sentimental because this year is different. This year, we were forced to be apart just when our groove started picking up its pace....

My Project

I will use the machine to help teach song lyrics from each week's Song of the Week. We start and end our day in song. I teach figurative language (similes and metaphors), rhyme and repetition and more through song. Most importantly, I use each song to build our classroom community.

Students love to sing!

Even the shy, quiet kids start to join in after they know they are safe. Songs like Compass, Firework, Brave, and Stand in the Light are just a few that help me build that bond the first month of school. The owl pellets are used as an extension activity to build teamwork. I rarely order them because of the expense.
