My Students

My students are a very diverse group of children with a deep love for music.

In music class, they love anything that gets them moving-whether it is dancing or playing instruments, and for many of these children, this music class is their only exposure to the arts.

They value the opportunity to participate and learn, and have begun asking me to learn even more! This love for learning has me excited to create more complex lessons with more instruments and materials!

My Project

Last year, kind donors made it possible to where our school now has a full class set of ukuleles. The students love playing them, and having them has transformed how we are learning all kind of musical concepts.

As part of teaching my students how to be independent musicians, I would like them to be able to tune their ukuleles without my help.

String instruments constantly need to be re-tuned frequently because environmental factors make the strings go out of tune. With these clip-on tuners, the students can tune their own instrument without my help. They can also tune their instrument in the room with other sounds happening - the tuner picks up the vibrations from the ukulele, and not the sound with a microphone.
