My students need a small class set of books, along with the audio version for my auditory learners.

My students and I are working together to make sure the special education class down the hallway from us feels included. We want them to be able to learn from us and improve their reading skills, but more importantly, I want my general education students to learn more about enjoying life from them!
I teach seventh grade reading in a general education classroom setting in a low-income school.
I am ordering materials for my students to use with a special education classroom down the hall from us. I will be taking a class of my students and partnering them with the special education students for buddy reading. By starting this spectacular bond between my students and our new friends, we are excited to see all of our students help each other, create new, life-long friendships, and grow into amazing and accepting people.
I teach seventh grade reading in a general education classroom setting. Down the hallway from us is a special education classroom with students with disabilities. Throughout the year, I noticed our students sharing a hallway with these miraculous children, but not interacting with them. After getting together with the special education teacher, I am going to be taking one of my classes and partnering them up with the students to work on all students reading and comprehension skills, but more importantly working on life skills for all students. By getting to know each other more, both groups of students are going to become more acclimated to other lifestyles. I want their students to be more comfortable in larger groups and I want my students to become more aware of the capabilities of these amazing students. As the special education teacher and I discussed, this is an opportunity that will help ALL of our students grow as individuals.
Not only will these novels and audio versions help our students improve their fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and understanding of universal themes, but most importantly, it's showing all of students what it looks like to work together in our community.
These interactions will help all of our students grow into phenomenal adults. We are hoping to continue this special bond for many years to come!
