As the Art teacher, I love the diversity our campus has and all of the culture and ideas that come with it. We are the only Vietnamese bi-lingual school in our area! Each grade level has a Vietnamese bi-lingual teacher that teaches in both English and Vietnamese. The students are kind, excited and ready to learn everything about art.
Since arriving at my school, I realized my students have not had the opportunity to create exciting new projects due to budget constraints.
We are a Title One school so students do not come with supplies that will help them learn. My students are funny, smart and understand they have so much potential.
My Project
Sharpies are the best tool to use for artists in my classroom to highlight, enhance and brighten their drawings. Other standard markers do not hold up to coloring and the color a sharpie can provide, changes the way a drawing can look.
With assorted colored Sharpies, my students can explore the amazing world of Op and Pop Art by creating original works of art!
My students will explore the works of Bridget Riley, Roy Lichtenstein and my personal favorite, Takashi Murakami. My fifth graders will create original skateboard designs inspired by pop artists. Filling up a skateboard with words, graffiti and cartoons takes a lot of color! Each student can leave fifth grade with the coolest project they can be proud of and one that they'll have forever.
