I teach in a low socio-economic urban school district. My energetic students are a diverse population of Hispanic, African-American, and Caucasian. Students come to school every day ready to take on academic challenges. They are a variety of personalities which contribute to the positive dynamics of the class. About 95% of our students at the school receive free breakfast and lunch. Despite what goes on outside of school, my students are eager to reach their highest potential. By the end of each school year, we bond like a family.
The use of computers is part of our daily schedule in math class. Students are required to master and complete lessons using an online math program. The program is designed to meet the individualized academic needs of each student.
Students' use of computer laptops improves engagement and knowledge retention which increases students' academic math levels.
The online math program creates unique and interesting math lessons which encourages student participation. Games are integrated into the lessons which result in more active participation. More active participation leads to better knowledge retention. Better knowledge retention leads to increased self-confidence in math class which makes for a happier math class!
