My middle school students are amazing! They are a part of a small, rural school district that strives to achieve on all levels. Like many rural communities, we have been affected by the lingering economic situation. Our school has a very high rate of students participating in the free and reduced-price lunch program. Many families have lost their income because of businesses closing and jobs being scaled back. Resources at school have also been cut drastically because of declining enrollment when families look for employment elsewhere.
My Project
By having individual yoga mats to share with all of my classes, each student would be able to participate comfortably. Students will learn about spatial awareness and body awareness. The activities and poses correlate with my curriculum.
Yoga can help increase concentration, flexibly, and strength.
It can also develop coordination and reduce stress and anxiety. The first and most obvious benefit of yoga is the increased flexibility and muscle strength. helps the students to learn to focus and calm down. Yoga also teaches the students independence. The students are taught to be more independent. They learn how to do different positions.
The yoga cards show students how to do different poses.
This can help release stressors that students may face daily. Yoga will help improve their mind, body, and soul.
