My students need individual yoga mats in order to help them begin a yoga and meditation practice at school. Yoga is such a great way to bring focus and relaxation into the mind.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are absolutely amazing!!! They are smart, caring, courageous, and full of energy. They come to school every day full of questions, ideas, and ready to learn.
As a teacher I recognize the importance of being able to focus, and truly be present in the classroom environment, regardless of outside influences.
Several of my students have trouble with concentration and struggle with behavior management.
Our school is a Title I school, which means that the majority of our students are on free and reduced lunch. They sometimes have issues that arise from not having a stable home environment. Even with some of these difficulties, they have a true desire and drive to succeed.
Every single students deserves the opportunity to learn practices that will help them to handle problems not only in the classroom, but as well as in their daily lives. I look forward to having a new group of students that I can help give a foundation for a happy healthy school year and life.
My Project
These yoga mats will help my students begin a yoga practice that will help them to be able to focus their energy as well as minimize stress.
Often times students have struggles that as adults we can't imagine.
I hope that giving students an outlet to relieve stress, focus on their breathing, and meditation will give them to tools to help them be more successful.
There have been several success stories at other schools who have offered yoga as a part of their school day, and they have seen a reduction in behavior issues, and a boost in student morale.
