This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

In the classroom, I will use what I am taught about breathing techniques, yoga positions, and self-awareness to teach my students strategies for de-escalation, self analogy, and relaxation. The curriculum provided is also a great resource to help teachers to practice and instruct students with proven methods to relieve anxiety and some physical restraints. Our students in 6-8 grades have not had an opportunity to take field trips, sports, extracurricular activities, special events, or guests due to a devastating hurricane in 2018, limited facilities, and the current Covid-19 pandemic. There is a lot of built-up anxiety and frustration from our students that makes it more difficult each year to help them ignore minute issues. They are a group of students who continue to go above and beyond with their academics and they deserve the opportunity to Breathe For A Change!
