I work with 160 amazing students from a variety of diverse backgrounds. My students are creative and energetic. They are working diligently to understand mathematics at a deeper level. As a teacher, I want to create a warm, inviting environment that will make coming to math class a joy.
As middle-schoolers, they have specific social-emotional, physical, and academic needs that includes physical movement opportunities.
These include opportunities to move physically, to interact often with their peers, and to engage with interesting ideas.
Don't just think outside the box, sit outside the box! Middle school students have a lot of energy and giving them opportunities for movement helps them stay focused. Alternate seating options, such as stability balls are a fantastic way to help students burn off excess energy, stay comfortable in class, and improve attention.
We currently have four stability balls in our classroom and my students have begged for more so that all students can sit on one everyday.
My students voted and 94% of them would love to have a stability ball every day. Thus, we ask for your help!
