My Students

Our school district serves approximately 671 students. The district is described as a seven square mile area that tends to be rural with an Appalachian culture in southwest Ohio. With a decline in revenue, our school district is the fourth poorest in Ohio's school systems.

Our school district may be small, but it is with purpose and intent that there will be a turn-around with a new focus of administration and staff.

This is a community in which the majority of the residents live below 200% of the federal poverty level. In addition, 96% of the students are economically disadvantaged and are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch.

My Project

Our children live in a busy world with so many pressures. The daily hustle can have an effect, but what helps is being able to recognize stress and how we (as individuals) can deal with that.

I have found that yoga can help counter these pressures.

I want my students to learn self-monitoring techniques for health, meditation, and inner peace. Yoga encourages confidence and awareness in a way that is not competitive with peers but is beneficial to each individual.

There are so many health benefits associated with yoga and I want to give my students resources to help them use this tool in their daily lives. Each student needs their own yoga mat for a daily practice.
