My Students
There are several things I truly love about the students I teach. Perhaps the greatest thing is how much they truly teach me. I only need to observe them to realize how I should approach life. I am in awe of how eager they are to learn. They love hands-on projects and being able to move around. I love hearing their stories about their daily interactions. It is rare to hear them share gossip or negative comments. I wish we could all keep that innocence.
These students deserve to learn in an environment that encourages them to be themselves.
To often we hear that they should remain seated and sit still. Those days are gone. Students that I have taught have varied in their levels of activity when seated. I was fortunate to get great advice from a fellow teacher who uses ball chairs, wiggle cushions, and wiggle chairs. She explained that those that are fidgety learn best in chairs that they can get their wiggles out in a positive way. Wiggling in their seats actually helps to stimulate the active students so they are more focused and read to learn.
My Project
The students in my class will be able to use the wobble cushions and chairs as a means to get their wiggles out while still engaged in learning. I have had several students who have a hard time sitting still and have found myself redirecting them to go back to their seats. These students want to learn they just need accommodations that can help them stay in one spot.
The wobble chairs and cushions are a fantastic aid in ensuring that the students who are feeling fidgety achieve academic success.
The students are able to move while seated and still be engaged in the lessons.
I was able to observe these chairs in use in a fellow teacher's classroom. I was truly impressed with the results. One particular student had ADHD and was able to complete his assignment without getting up to wander around. He wiggled in the chair but continued working. It truly is a wonderful option.
