This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The population my school serves are mostly minority students comprised of 70% Black Non-Hispanic (a vast majority of these are of Haitian-Creole descent), 22% Hispanic, 5% White Non-Hispanic, and 3% Asian/Indian/Multiracial.
We are designated as a Title I school which means the majority of our students receive free or reduced lunch.
They are gifted and advanced students and are part of a science based magnet program.
My students have a love for learning. I hope to provide all their necessary needs to be successful.
My Project
My students are at a crucial stage in their development and staying healthy is at the top of the list of important aspects of their lives.
After a long day of school, students are hungry and need a snack to be good participants in after-school tutoring.
My students will either be hungry or have an unhealthy snack after-school. Sometimes they cannot concentrate during tutoring because they are thinking about something to eat.
My students will benefit for having this snack and water so they can be comfortable and hydrated before we add tutoring to their day. My students take high stakes tests so need the extra help during tutoring. Many do not participate because they go home so they can eat. With me being able to provide snacks and water to them after school, they will be able to stay the extra hour and participate in math tutoring.
