My students need positive reinforcement. My Credit Recovery class has students who have failed multiple classes. They come in feeling defeated. I promote success. Certificates and incentives help them be recognized for success.
My students are in Credit Recovery. That means they have failed a number of classes and they get a second chance to recover credit for graduation by taking online courses. Many of my students live in environments of poverty. That poverty contributes to their at-risk status. All my students are officially "at-risk." Credit Recovery helps them graduate from high school. Credit Recovery students come into class, many times, with negative feelings. Hurricane Harvey hit our state and many families were flooded here in our town. We are still recovering.
My Project
My students need access to a quality pencil sharpener and a new stapler. Many times they ask for colored markers to complete projects.
Certificates of recognition will help my students achieve more by making school a place of honor and acceptance.
My students need to be motivated by the use of reward certificates. They are taking online courses for classes they failed before. They have multiple classes to take and can feel overwhelmed and defeated. I can use certificates letting them know they are "star students." When they complete a course, I complete a certificate and post it on our classroom wall. This helps build their confidence and further success.
