"To know what you know and what you do not know, that is true knowledge." - Confucius. What better way to learn this than by students sharing and discussing their thoughts with their peers. They not only learn how to think, but learn how to engage and interact with others.
Our school has continued to grow in all academic areas and perform well on state tests.
We focus on the whole child. We consistently work on developing critical thinkers. My students enjoy sharing their ideas and thoughts with their peers and challenge each other to do their best. They are very technologically literate, an important skill for our leaders or tomorrow. The iPad will allow them to continue with this growth, by not only providing opportunities for them to explain their thinking, but showing it to the entire class as they think out loud. With Common Core, our students learn "I can..." standards. For example, in Language Arts, "I can show that I know how to use correct language and grammar when I write". In Math, "I can use ratios and proportional relationships to help me understand math". To show and share as they are learning can be empowering.
My Project
My students will be able to use the iPad to project and manipulate their work up on the screen. During Language Arts, they can edit their writing while collaborating with peers. While we are completing a math assignment, my students will be able to explain their work while showing each step. They can compare their answers to their peers and even learn new ways to solve the same problem. Learning about Ancient Civilizations will take on a whole new path as they locate and share about Egypt, India, China, Greece, and Rome. The rich discussion that will come from this will be invaluable. If students are now to say "I can..." statements for Common Core as they learn, what better way to say "I can..." then to show "I can..." and prove it to others, as well as themselves.
With the iPad, my students will not only learn new information but will be able to support their ideas with facts, sharing what they believe and have learned with their peers.
They will gain confidence in curricular areas, as well as build their confidence socially as they practice various communication skills throughout their day.
