Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Have you ever been in a classroom where the noise level during independent or group work slowly climbs until the teacher must interrupt the learning in order to lower the volume level? My kids are well-behaved but certainly have the same tendency as all other human groups to escalate in sound while working. A Yakker Tracker would provide a visual incentive for keeping sound low, and therefore increasing our learning time and decreasing our disruptions. The Yakker Tracker is similar to a traffic light. It measures sound. Low sound would result in a shining green light. Medium sound would show a yellow light. Once the sound got too loud, the red light would come on. Students would know that their sound level was too high at that point. I will make it a class goal to work in groups without having the Yakker Tracker ever reach the red level. This proposal also includes the much-acclaimed Teach Timer. This very large timer allows students to keep track of the various tasks that I time them on throughout the day. For example, even a student in the back of the room could see that there were 3 minutes left in an assignment's time. This timer can be viewed on the overhead as well, which is extremely valuable. Thank you in advance for your help. My students will be so excited at our new "traffic light" and the timer that they can see! I look forward to the day when I can tell them that this proposal has been fully funded.
