Our Yearbook and Journalism courses will have students of all high school grade levels in the classroom. This will include students of diverse learning needs, from severely and profoundly disabled to gifted students taking advantage of college courses through concurrent enrollment.
We are a high school that serves families from diverse income levels and educational abilities.
The average classroom serves a 10-20 percent population of diverse learners or students with special needs. One of my yearbook students has Downs Syndrome, and he loves to go out with his classmates to capture photos around the school. He is always excited to see what he has captured, and his classmates cheer him on.
Students not only in the Yearbook and Journalism classes but all students in our school will benefit in many ways from this technology. The images and stories the camera will tell through photos in the school newspaper, photos in the yearbook, and photos included in project materials from both mine and my English colleague's classes will positively affect each and every student in our school personally and technologically.
My Project
The use of cameras is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially in yearbook. Updated camera technology will help us to capture the best images possible to document our year. The camera will allow me to see exactly what images are captures, as well as provide an easy way to transfer them to the computer and the yearbook site. What becomes a problem is the fact that technology advances so quickly that cameras eventually become obsolete. Newer cameras offer higher resolution, are more user friendly, and offer better storage media than some we use. Even though they take photos well, it is more difficult to edit and manipulate these photos while keeping the best resolution. By having a new camera, students will be able to work more efficiently and spend more time focusing on page layout and presentation!

Students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand, and not whether their photos are going to measure up. Plus in this technology literate world, any interaction with updated technology will increase their literacy as well as their desire to learn and use the new technology!
