Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is in a very rural setting of Texas in a small town. Most students who come to our school are from an economically disadvantaged background. This, however, does not diminish their curiosity or love of art---just the opposite.
Most students who come into my room have hope in their eyes and want to explore different mediums.
I think that art can be a great escape from any troubles they may be facing. They love creating art in my room, and many times are so proud that they give their finished piece to a loved one as a gift.
Our school is in one of the counties affected by Harvey a year ago. While our school was not affected, I know many families are still recovering. Any addition to the art room can brighten their days and outlooks!
My Project
I teach yearbook and art at a tiny rural high school. This is my first year taking on the yearbook, and we do not have any computers.
Having access to technology in the classroom would be a game-changer for my students!
In the yearbook class, students would use the Chromebooks to design the entire yearbook and input/edit photos. The Chromebooks would also be indispensable in art. Students would be able to access photos to use as sources for drawing, look up inspiration and research current and historical artists.
All other subjects in my school have access to technology without moving their class to the computer lab. It would not be conducive to move the art class to the computer lab. I am advocating for the art program in our school. Please help me to bring this much-needed technology to our studio! It would be greatly appreciated.
{This school falls in a district that was affected by Hurricane Harvey. Supplies and resources donated would help students/families that are still recovering from this tragedy.}
