I am so lucky to have the honor of spending my days in our Kindergarten. Our small rural town has some challenges with more than half of our students being from low-income households. Yet, they have such positive attitudes. They love to explore, play, and learn. They have such an enthusiastic view of life! They make every day better.
These students deserve the best -- they are respectful, responsible, and hard working.
They have a positive outlook on life and they always make me smile.
My Project
Our School District has a wonderful program called "Outdoor Core". At the Kindergarten, through the 6th-grade level, Outdoor Core is designed to use our northern Sierra Nevada homeland as the integrating focus for learning. Employing a project-based learning structure, students progress through 7 thematic years, as they become “Mountain Kids”. Students spend each year learning about our local environment. The focus for Kindergarten is the "Year of the Garden". The unique attributes of our mountain communities provide an opportunity to provide not just a quality education, but a quality mountain education that looks and feels like home. My Kindergarten class has been working on a project to improve our playground and focus on planting and maintaining a new learning landscape. We need tools and supplies to succeed.
