This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a first year teacher at a priority school in SW DC. Our school has been labeled as a "40-40" school meaning that we are among the lowest performing schools in DCPS. One hundred percent of our kiddos receive free and reduced lunch. Our school population also has a high number of special education students. In my room, I have a variety of learners, including students with ADHD, speech impediments, learning disorders and emotional disturbance.
We don't receive supplies from parents or the school, so we are trying to fill the gap with help from donors!
With your help, we can create a loving, warm learning environment for my first graders where they have access to all the materials they need to learn!
My Project
Every morning we will spend time on the carpet building a community and learning the days of the week and doing calendar math - but, we need the monthly number inserts to do calendar!
My future kindergartners and I need basic supplies that will get my room ready for them!
The nameplates for our tables. These nameplates are fantastic because they have shapes, a 100's chart and reminders of how to figure out unknown words -- all skills that we learn in kindergarten! We also need containers to organize our classroom library by genre. My students are eager to begin to read and find books about topics they like. These neon bins will allow me to organize by theme and label them.
The bulletin board border and cupcakes will be used to make a bulletin board celebrating kids' birthdays and the hall passes mean that kids can easily take a pass and go!
