"Ignorance is not saying, I don't know. Ignorance is saying, I don't want to know." - Unknown. I believe that students need to have access to their world, access to answer their questions, access to updated information. This MacBook can help my students be questioners and seekers of knowledge.
I teach 5th grade GATE in a public elementary school.
My students are inquisitive, bright and eager to learn. They are a group of question askers and information seekers, and sometimes their teacher is NOT smarter than a 5th grader! Having access to a computer, as a resource for their ever quest for knowledge, would enable them to seek and answer their curiosity of life. My students are also eager to create and dazzle me with their creativity and presentation skills. They amaze me with their ability to take a learning situation and make it come alive with their creative expertise on subject knowledge in all content areas. My students come from families who value education and encourage their children to learn and be good citizens with the resources they have available. I admire my students and their families and want to give them everything possible to enhance their educational experience.
My Project
Because of the inquisitive nature of my class, I would like to have a designated area in my classroom that my students could use for resources. They would have unlimited access to this MacBook as well as dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias. In addition, we do numerous group projects and activities. This MacBook would be used as a resource for movie making, slide shows, and presentations. It would be available and used throughout the day by my students. After school the MacBook would continue to be used for the benefit of student success. It would be used for individual tutoring as I often work with students after school. This MacBook would also be available to students without access to home computers. Many of my projects require students to type and complete research online; this computer will benefit those students without home access. Having this MacBook computer would greatly benefit the success of my students.
Receiving a MacBook computer will give my students an additional resource to answer their questions, complete projects, create slide shows and video productions, and stay up and current with our ever changing technology.
It will give my students, who in some cases, have limited access to technology, a chance to learn and explore their ever changing world. Having this MacBook in my classroom will give me the ability to work one-on-one or in small groups to teach and model lessons.
