Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Think about coming into a kindergarten classroom with students who have varied ethnic backgrounds and whose primary language is not English. These students often need extra support for learning English but always manage to come to school with the biggest smiles on their faces. Every day, I teach my students the English language, as well as to read, write, and math concepts.
Many of these students do not have English language support at home.
I immerse them in the English language and help them become successful. My school prides itself on being able to bring students together for creative endeavors. With help from donors, we've already been able to fund multiple successful and engaging projects.
My Project
My students love to play and be active participants. However, getting kindergartners engaged in math can be very difficult especially when pieces of math games are missing. Math games allow my students to be active learners without realizing it. These activities will also help my English Language Learners become more active in the math lessons.
New math games will allow my students to be active learners and not worry about missing pieces of the math games we currently have.
Having these math games such as 10 frame stamps, 10 frame dice, and math puzzles will help my students learn in a fun and inviting way. Bringing fun into a classroom can very difficult without having the right materials. The laminating pouches and dot markers will also help me replenish and create math games that my students will be able to learn from. That is why having these materials will change the way my students soak up knowledge.
