My students need a Fun with Phonics Rectangle Carpet.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
From hand me down clothes to hand me down carpets, my students always seem to get the short end of the stick. My kids need a fresh, colorful carpet to brighten up their classroom environment. My students are currently attending a school where 98% of the students are eligible for free lunch based on the income of the family. I teach a class that combines special needs students with general education students into one setting. Due to the grave lack of resources in the community, most students, regardless of general education or special education classification, are at least one grade level behind. Classroom environment is essential to an effective and productive day, especially when teaching special needs children.
Due to the recent budget cuts in my city, many of the promised upgrades were put on the bottom of the schools priority list. This leaves my students with a dirty, tattered classroom rug to contend with daily. Everyday my students complain about sitting on the classroom rug because it always looks dirty. Even though I reassure them that the rug was cleaned, they are not inspired to sit and engage in lessons taught on the rug. We desperately need an updated and fresh carpet.
A new classroom rug will provide my students with a new sense of pride for their classroom environment. They will no longer dread coming to the rug, for fear of "catching a bug" as they put it. This rug will benefit not only my students this year, but for years to come.
You will make it possible for my students to have an enhanced classroom environment, by providing them with a new and improved classroom rug.
