Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in an inner city school where most of the students live in high poverty, have special needs, struggle academically and do not speak English. Our school has a 100 percent free and reduced-price lunch population. The crime rate of our school's zip code is one of the highest in the state.
Despite the situations the children are living in, I see their potential.
My students are wonderful, exciting, and delightful. To help with their English development, academic success and to motivate my gifted students to achieve at higher levels, we need more tools. We have many students who have issues with just sitting still. A few of our students have medical issues and behavior plans. We have many students who come to school sick every day or do not come to school because of personal issues. We have many students with special needs. Due to this high population of harder to reach kids, we need many tools at our school.
My Project
We have several students in first grade who receive speech services. I am asking for support materials that can be used in conjunction with our speech therapy staff and in the first grade classrooms. The three listed resources are the most desired for activities we do in class to help develop speech progression.
I am requesting the game, Pop the Pig because this game can be used with educators to increase spontaneous conversation, turn taking, and following directions.
We are also requesting the game Cariboo. This would be an effective tool to promote language development though a highly motivational tool during speech therapy.
The book is a motivating piece of literature to engage students in discussion.
All items can be modified to fit any speech goal easily. Thank you so much for any support given.
