My school has an enrollment of 450+ students, grades K-5. This school is in a city suburb. The student body is quite diverse in race and socioeconomic characteristics.
We have a strong student council, creating projects for the whole student body, projects to help our school, our community, and the world.
We have a strong general music program, incorporating singing, movement, ukuleles, recorders, drums, xylophones, and marimbas. Our 4th/5th-grade choir has over 60 students and we perform at several concerts during the year. We also have a relationship with a local nursing home where we visit often.
My Project
These small, pentatonic xylophones will give my younger students an opportunity to explore and improvise new melodies. Pentatonic instruments are fun and easy to play, because the notes in the pentatonic scale all harmonize with one another, there are no wrong notes! This small xylophone is the ideal choice for playing simple melodies, accompaniments, and improvisations.
The music room should be a place of fun and discovery.
It should be a place to be creative through singing, movement, and playing instruments. These xylophones will give children another chance to be successful as they find ways to tell stories and create original pieces through music.
