This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
My goal as a Music teacher in an urban district, is to expose my K-5 students to as many musical experiences as I can. We learn many genres, and I focus on the styles to which they would not typically listen, and tie the history into genres with which they are familiar. I expose my scholars to music theory, instruments, music history and composers, singing and vocabulary words. I bring in geography, math, science and reading skills wherever I can, in an attempt to tie into their general education requirements and help reinforce them.
One area in which my resources are lacking, is having melodic instruments to play.
I have percussion toys, but only a couple of melodic instruments, which are so important to mastering reading music. I would like to build my inventory so more students can participate each day. Thank you for helping to build strong future musicians!
