Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

GHS students are primarily from the low-income background; 80% qualify for free or reduced-cost lunch, and more than 50% are Hispanics.

I firmly believe that GHS has a talented pool of young people are ready to take on Raspberry PI challenges.

Despite the odds, we have many college-bound students, We have almost 85 students who take my classes APCSP, APCS, AP Calc AB, and AP Calc BC. The field of computer science is expanding exponentially in our lives is an undeniable truth. The research says students from low SES and girls tend not to try new opportunities.

I taught AP Research, AP Calc AB and BC at GHS last year. GHS students proved their talent, six years in a row, by scoring averages ranging from 3.8 to 5 out 5 in AP Calculus BC exam, always above, or at par to, the state and national averages. Every one in AP Research class passed last year.

My Project

The coding club in Gainesville accomplished so many tasks in just one year. We built a website using WordPress for our Hub where we offer many services for our students and community. The awesome thing is, every little picture you see on the website was drawn and coded by students in the coding club. Our ultimate goal is to build solutions for the challenges of our school and community. We have been planning on developing an iPhone app for our hub and other projects we have in our mind. Some of our coders do have Macbooks, but not all of them. Macbooks are expensive; neither my students nor I can afford to donate a MacBook to the coding club. We want to get at least two MacBooks for our club but we will be happy with this one MacBook. Please know that every penny you invest in these kids is worth more than you think it is.
