My Students

"I choose my wardrobe, electronic devices, backpacks based on what my friends and classmates recommend. Teachers do not always drive my interests nor are they always the catalyst driving my improvement. Student-driven feedback will improve engagement and support my writing."

Freshman Writing is a new course offered by our district, a district that has high needs for underprivileged students.

In our day to day lessons students would greatly benefit from dissecting essays and written responses instantaneously. We would write, view and discuss trends that need attention.

My Project

Grading essays is one way for students to get feedback, but there are other, more engaging ways, for students to receive valuable feedback: instant feedback from both peers and teacher via a document camera. Student-to-student feedback is essential to a writing classroom. These students will not need to wait for the teacher to give them one-dimensional feedback-- they will receive instant feedback from 30 critics!

Students will enjoy looking at writing together while improving skills together.

Each student will benefit from peer reviewing their writing with a student/teacher partnership. Students do not always want to make changes because of what a teacher says: this is a way that students can be positively influenced by fellow peers and teacher simultaneously.
