Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In our classroom, we focus on becoming mathematicians, letter investigators, reading experts, authors, global citizens, scientists, and engineers. My goal is to share experiences with them that they would otherwise not have the chance to experience because of their diverse backgrounds. They all come from a low socioeconomic (low SES) background, are recipients of free or reduced-price lunch, and are all English Language Learners (ELLs). Every day, they must overcome adversity to reach their goals.
My students have become invested in their learning and are becoming problem solvers and collaborators.
They are committed to coming to school every day ready to learn and do their best. Through mastering our academic goals and standards, as well as gaining strong character qualities, my students will be set up for success. My students will be impacted in a way that will push them to the next level to be college-ready. They will have more ways to demonstrate their knowledge and ways of thinking. First grade is such a valuable asset and so very important to set them up for success. It gives them a solid foundation academically that they will need for the rest of their academic journey.
My Project
I would love to provide DUPLO bricks, DUPLO characters and animals to help spark my students' creativity during writing. Many students do not have enough fine motors skills to use smaller sized LEGO bricks.
Writing is always a difficult time for my students to come up with ideas for their writing.
As English Language Learners, it is more difficult for my kiddos to put their thoughts into words. I hope that proving my kiddos with DUPLO bricks and characters, they will be able to create and build their stories or scenes and in turn write about what they have built. My kiddos will have so much fun bringing their ideas to life. These bricks will also help with fine motor work that some of my kiddos still need.
