My Students

Writing is difficult enough without the inability to hold a pencil or maneuver sheets of paper. Having a set of Boogie Boards will allow my students to produce letters, words, and sentences with the tip of their finger using the same hand movements as the other students. This is important to them.

We are an intermediate classroom from Texas with many low-income families.

As many of these students enter the classroom, they are below level in their reading, math, and writing skills. Several are working hard to overcome physical limitations that hinder their ability to use tradition means of writing. While we do use other means of production such as computers, it is important for these students to learn letter formation and have the opportunity to experience writing in the same mode as their classmates.

My Project

A Boogie Board is an LCD eWriter that works with the touch of any object such as the tip of a child's finger. With the press of a button, the screen can be cleared. These lightweight tablets will motivate students to write and share with their peers. Students who have avoided the task of writing will want to grab this tablet to practice math, spelling, science, and even to just be creative.

I see the daily struggle and the frustration on the faces of these students when it is time to write.

By providing this simple tool, I know they will want to share all that has been kept within them for far too long. Providing motivating and engaging opportunities to learn, isn't that what we want for all children?
