My Students

Students at my school come from diverse backgrounds and economic situations. When presented with engaging books and materials, students are more willing to express their opinions and learn from others. Over the years, I have seen many reluctant students be engaged by the right text or topic that ignites curiosity in them that is the gateway for more enjoyably furthering their academic skills.

Students are often good judges of others' writing, but not always their own because it's easy for our minds to fill in the gaps.

After all, we know what we want to say. So, reading examples of good writing and having opportunities to receive feedback on their writing is essential.

My Project

I've never known a person who does not have an opinion on something. However, not everyone can fully articulate those opinions as written or spoken words.

Through writing, we clarify our thinking.

With the materials from this project, my students will have a variety of engaging ways to improve their writing and, therefore, more fully express their thoughts and opinions.

Students' confidence is boosted in all areas of academics when they can fully express themselves. And in light of the ongoing pandemic and many other issues our nation faces, it is more important than ever for students to be able to express themselves both inside and outside of the classroom.

Students need excellent and engaging examples of the skills covered by the standards that prepare them for writing beyond the classroom. Several of the books purchased with this project will help provide more variety of those examples in both academic writing and writing in the real world. Although technology is often used in the classroom to facilitate learning, students still need to use actual paper and pens. However, students often struggle to stay organized, and staples are not large enough to keep shorter readings together. So, by being able to bind short readings that go together, I can help my students stay more organized and better follow the sequencing of class content. The. colored pens are great to use when giving students feedback or having them peer review each other on paper for an essay. It is so much easier to see colored pens than it is to see black or blue ink in contrast to the printed text. The headphones are necessary because standardized tests have at least 1 question that requires listening to something. Some bring their headphones, but many don't.
