Help me give my students more time on task using a Giant Classroom Timer to draft interesting pieces per The Quick Write Handbook or Cursive Handwriting Workbook for Teens by handwriting or printing using HP High Yield Cartridges.

My school is a 6A comprehensive suburban school with over 2,800 students, more than 65% receiving free and reduced price lunch, and 63% identified as at-risk. During the 2020-2021 school year, our campus demographics were: African American 37.1%, Hispanic 43.2%, White 14.4% with the remaining 5.2% as Other. The student body overall has a 10% identified as LEP/ELL and the most recent home language survey indicated our students speak over 600 languages other than English with the primary languages being Spanish and Vietnamese. The campus has a mobility rate similar to the state average, of about 19.1%.
I love that my students are diverse and love to converse!
In the English IV classes I co-teach, my students' abilities range from on-level to exceptional, requiring special education accommodations and differentiation.
Dealing with the pandemic and being back in-person learning this year has presented an additional challenge in gaining their attention and keeping students engaged; especially with writing. This project represents the high expectations I have for all students to be successful.
These materials will make a difference in my students learning because it will force them to become better writers on things they will actually be able to use when they graduate. Additionally, providing students options in how they write makes assignments student centered. They can choose journals to write notes and draft on paper or word process and print out a draft to have a peer review and edit.
The printer cartridges, reams of paper, pens, pencils, and classroom timer included in this project will support us having necessary materials we need for writing drills, outlining, and quick writes.
Additionally, the cursive and quick writing instructional materials will allow enrichment lessons that will literally help students write better. Further, students will be better prepared to go beyond what they have been doing and potentially excel. Teens love to be encouraged too with kudos, so teacher motivational stamps are included as well.
The goal of this project will be to produce student outcomes where students can write/update their own resume, apply a cursive signature, have a greater understanding of why it is important to be able to read carefully, understand syntax and contexts, as well as other practical uses, like letter writing for various reasons. Students will be able to practice writing with a purpose.
