Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Writing portfolios are a great way to keep student work organized, and begin helping them reflect on their own work.
My 6th grade students come from a low socioeconomic area.
However, this should not affect the level of education they receive. I believe my students can achieve at the highest levels, if they are given the opportunity and provided the tools to succeed.
My Project
The binders, dividers, and pocket organizers I am requesting will be used to support the 6+1 traits of writing I am currently teaching my students. They will be able to keep everything they work on throughout the year in these binders: notes, written compositions, writing examples, guidelines, etc. It will become their portfolio of the entire year.
The writing portfolios will not only help my students learn necessary organization skills, but also provide them with evidence of their growth as writers.
This will be a valuable lesson to learn before they go into 7th grade.
