My students need dry erase markers, erasers, boards, portable speech mirror, bilingual floor puzzles, tactile paper, and easy to read words to enhance our writing center.
I have a classroom full of 20 smart and intelligent dual language 3, 4, and 5 year olds. They are lively, energetic, curious, and imaginative. They come to school every day ready to learn. Children learn best when they are actively engaged in hands-on learning. This allows them to make meaningful lifelong connections.
We work on school readiness goals in literacy, language, math, social emotional, social studies, science, and physical development.
This means that children are ready for school, families are ready to support their children's learning, and schools are ready for children. The majority of the children in my classroom come from low-income homes, and this is their first exposure in a school setting. They are an eager bunch of children who strive to learn more everyday and explore the world around them.
My Project
The materials I am requesting are to create an EXCITING and INTRIGUING writing center. The activities I envision my students doing are writing with different writing materials on dry erase boards. I also hope they will learn to spell their own names and find the letters to place in order. These are kindergarten readiness goals I want my students to master before they enter the next phase of school. My students will use the writing center items during center time and small group time to practice their writing skills and gain the confidence to write and create their own stories. I also plan to work with my students on being organized and teach color recognition. The children will have the opportunity to work on floor puzzles in dual languages as a team. My students can use the portable speech to help them see and learn how to properly produce letters.
This project will make a difference because currently we do have a whole a lot of items in our writing center.
The children do not visit it often, so it is hard to engage them in writing activities. I would like to have the materials and opportunity to show the students writing is important and the types of activities they can participate in when it comes to writing. I want to make sure they can get exposure to items they might not encounter at home.
