My students need tools to improve their fine motor skills, supports to develop grip and hand muscles for writing, and additional supplies on learning to form letters correctly.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I love my job! I am so lucky to work with the students in our district. I work in a inner city school district as an Occupational Therapist with students with disabilities. Every day our students come to school ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. They amaze and inspire me everyday!
Each of my students have individual amazing strengths that allow them to overcome barriers and not only participate but grow, learn, and excel at school.
We work hard to provide our students with the tools to be successful at school to the best of their abilities. All students can learn, we just need to give them the right tools and opportunities!
Many of our students, want to learn but have significant difficulties in the area self-regulation. This includes students with Austism, ADHD, Developmental Delays, Lead Exposure and Emotional Impairment. Our students can have other challenges including homelessness, poverty, and living in a high crime area.
However, every day our students inspire us with their grit and determination. Our school is a safe place for our students with wonderful educators who make our students part of a school family.
My Project
My students for a variety of reasons have difficulty with fine motor and visual perceptual skills. They need activities that they can use in therapy and in class to develop these fine motor skills and assist with developing hand muscle to improve grip and motor control with writing/drawing.
Young students these days are coming to school with deficits in fine motor skills with the increased use of technology at a young age for students with physical disabilities, sensory processing disorders, developmental delays, autism it can be even more difficult to develop pre-writing and writing skills.
I need tools that can be integrated into the classroom to provide my students with the greatest ability to develop their fine motor, visual perceptual, and motor control to improve their ability to develop writing skills with fluency and legibility.
