My students need writing journals. The Draw & Write Journals provide space for a story and an illustration. The additional space can also be used for practicing letter formations and attempting new words.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Imagine a world where the Facebook Headquarters are in your backyard. You know things are happening around you, but as a little kid sometimes you get lost in the middle of all the hustle and bustle. My students come from busy families who often work 2-3 jobs to stay afloat. They share homes to save on rent and pass clothes among siblings and friends to spare expenses. Most students receive free breakfast and lunch at school and take advantage of our amazing after-school program which also includes an evening meal.
School is a safe, happy place in our community!
Students and families seek advice, resources and support on our campus. The trust between families and teachers is strong because the community has seen that school does not end at 3pm, and teachers do not just provide academic lessons. We are part of the community and strive to tap all resources available to meet the need of our students!
My Project
Each day my students read books and write stories. They currently use journals that I created by stapling blank copy paper together. These "fancy" Write and Draw Journals from Lakeshore will be a welcome upgrade for them to record their responses to the stories they read.
"Can we write in our journals today?" My students eagerly dive into their writing with enthusiasm and excitement.
As a primary teacher, I am proud to instill a love of writing in my young students. They have worked hard to build a writing vocabulary, as well as a set of strategic ways to spell unknown words. Of course many of these words are creatively spelled, but when coordinated with intensive reading instruction they are able to identify words in print and notice spelling patterns. Your gift generates magic in my classroom!
