Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I school in a low-income area where eighty percent of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Many of my students are second language learners. Most of them do not have any school experience before entering Kindergarten, but they don't let that hold them back. They crave social interaction and an opportunity to express themselves.
My students are kind and hardworking children who enjoy playing and discovering with friends.
They are always motivated and have a very positive attitude toward learning.
My Project
We are requesting draw and write journals and blanks books for story writing. My students love to draw, color and write. This was not true at the beginning of the school year. Many of my students started the school year unable to hold a pencil. Now, they are wonderful writers and artists. I am so proud of them. I try to foster the love of art and writing in my students. I am asking for journals and blank story books for them to create their own stories. Students will be able to be little authors just like Dr. Seuss.
Students will use the journals daily to record their thoughts each day during our writing center.
They will also use the blank story books to illustrate and write an autobiography of their Kindergarten experience. I am planning to show case these books at Open House in May. These books will also be a great keepsake for my students. I can’t wait for my little authors to amaze me!
