My wonderful, preschool students face many struggles: poverty, parental neglect and domestic violence. Our kids qualify for both Title One funding and Head Start, which means they battle crippling poverty on a daily basis. Some have just arrived in the U.S.
We strive to provide a safe, welcoming and loving environment for our kids, full of enriching experiences.
We hope to encourage them daily in their quest to obtain the skills necessary for a successful kindergarten year.
Often, our greatest challenge is lack of funding for classroom supplies we need to provide enriching experiences for our students. Parents struggle to meet basic needs and it is not unusual to get little to no funding at all for necessary supplies.
My Project
Preschool children love to scribble, but many lack the hand and finger strength to successfully hold most writing instruments. Dry erase markers are an easy solution to this problem! Our Fundations literacy program relies on the use of dry erase markers for easy use and practice.
With these markers, my students will learn to properly form letters, enabling them to start writing their own personal stories.
Preserving and re-reading their own books is so important to encourage literacy in a preschoolers life! The laminating pouches will enable us to preserve precious beginner stories and cards, giving us a whole new library of books my students will return to each day.
