Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are English Language learners with special needs. Learning another language is never an easy process and it is even more difficult for students with learning or attention disorders. Families in New Brunswick are 95% Hispanic and most struggle to reinforce literacy skills at home since they do not understand the language themselves. Many families are also struggling financially, causing both parents to have to work, placing additional responsibilities on children at a young age. Although my students are only 6 years old, they are often required to help care for younger siblings or complete household chores after school, leaving little time for homework and studying.
Despite their struggles at home, my students are some of the hardest working people I know.
They know that if they work hard, they can do anything they put their minds to and I do my best to instill that in them every day.
My Project
These rainbow-writing tablets will help my special learners engage in tasks and build the skills they need to be successful. The magic-erase button, stylus, and rainbow colors in these tablets are so exciting! What kid, or adult for that matter, wouldn't love to write and draw on these? These would be used in small group to practice writing letters, numbers, sight words, and more! Gone are the days of messy white boards and time spent erasing. With one touch, the boards are clean and ready to be used again and again!
Writing is one of the most challenging subjects for many young learners, especially those with special needs.
These tablets will turn a difficult task into a favorite activity!
The tablets, and other tools in this order will help my special education students focus in class and learn to read and write with their peers. Many of my students struggle with inattention and hyperactivity as part of their learning disorders. Fidgit toys and playdoh provide them with the sensory input that they are seeking, so they can focus on the current task. Noise-canceling headphones help to limit distractions as they work independently and magnet letters and flip books provide opportunities for hands-on and multi-sensory instruction.
These tools would help my learners in so many ways. Please help my students be the best first graders they can be!!
